FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (AND SOME
QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD BE ASKING BUT AREN'T)
Will I get to pick my music? Will you help me with
suggestions? Do you have all kinds of music? What kind of music do you play?
Will you play requests? Yes, yes, yes, and hell yes. We play what you
want, and/or the DJ reads the crowd if you give him free rein.
How much will my MC talk? Will he talk too much/too
little? I don't want him to be cheesy. You get to choose how much or how
little the MC talks regardless of announcing style. You also get to choose the
tone that he uses. We actually ask you and as far as we know, WE ARE THE ONLY
COMPANY THAT DOES SO.
How experienced/old are your DJs? All
veteran/primary Main Event DJs have AT LEAST 15 yrs experience and are at least
33 years old (old enough that parents trust us, young enough that our couples
love us).
Do you have bi-lingual (Spanish) DJs? Yes.
There is an additional fee for this service
Do I get the MC/DJ I am promised? Yes! We
guarantee it on the contract. We also back it up by giving you a cash at event
final payment option. Call for more details.
How many DJ's do you provide at each event? Which
is better, one DJ or two? Most of the time we provide one, which works
great. There are some advantages to having two, but it is certainly not
required. Ask for more details.
Why is there such a wide range of DJ pricing?
There are good reasons for this but the answers are lengthy. Why is there
such a range of pricing for cars? The same principles apply to Disc Jockeys.
Read "The Big
Secret" for more on this.
Will you run/direct/coordinate my event? Yes.
We run it. You have fun.
What do you wear? A full tuxedo is worn for
weddings and most corporate events. For other events we dress according to your
desire (as long as it is legal).
Is there a planning meeting? Is it with my DJ?
Yes and yes. This is in-person with the Classic and Biographical Styles and on
the phone in the Jukebox (Basic) Style.
Do DJs get tipped? Sometimes, but not like
bartenders or waitresses (and never tipsy). It is appreciated but not expected
(and a DJ should never ask for it or hint at it).
Will you customize/personalize my event? Will you do
what I want? Yes and yes. Be clear on the distinction between
customization/personalization and the Biographical Style. Many companies
customize/personalize, as do we. But only the Biographical Style packages have
the unique one-of-a-kind feel that comes from extensive preparation.
Here is a wedding example. Playing the first dance song that you want
is "customizing/personalizing" your wedding. In the Biographical Style your 1st
dance presentation could mean the MC telling your guests (from memory) a few
sentences about what that song means to your relationship and how you decided
to use it.
What is the difference between the Classic &
Biographical Styles? Regardless of which company you hire, all Classic
style events start with a framework and add you to it. Your music is unique to
you in both styles, and so is the DJ's personality, but the MC work in the
Classic Style is not. Most Classic Style events look similar even though most
companies "personalize" (your names, 1st dance, etc) within the style. A
Biographical Style event is unique because it starts with information about you
and your life and builds from there. There are many options available in the
Biographical Style that are not available in the Classic Style.
Why do so many DJs only offer the Classic Style? Why
don't more DJs offer the Biographical Style? The Classic Style is
relatively easy (or so we think) and has become the minimum that couples will
accept for their wedding (the Jukebox Style USED to be the minimum acceptable
style in the 80's and early 90's, but thankfully couples got wise and decided
they wanted more).
There are 3 reasons the Biographical Style is so
rare: 1) it's DIFFICULT 2) it takes AT LEAST 15 hours of preparation 3) it
takes a DJ who sincerely puts the bride and groom before his own ego. This last
one is rare considering that most DJs became DJs because they like being the
center of attention. There are also many DJs who have "borrowed" some of the
easier biographical items and use them. What they don't understand is that it
is more than just "doing" these things (That is why they aren't considered
Biographical DJs). More important is the way the DJ is "being" when he does
them. It is ALL about the attitude.
How do I reserve a DJ? A DJ is reserved with a
signed contract AND a reservation fee (non-refundable) of 30-50% of the total
contract amount. The reservation fee is applied toward the final balance.
Larger contracts may use a plan we call "triple pay". A planned consultation
does not reserve the DJ or the date. DJ's are reserved on a first come, first
served basis.
What if I don't know what package I want? You
may reserve a DJ without choosing a package with an initial reservation fee of
$500. There may be a 2nd reservation fee due in some of these cases. This fee
is applied toward the total amount. Keep in mind that some of the packages are
only available to one client on any given date and will be available to whoever
CHOOSES first.
What are my payment/reservation options?
Accepted forms of reservation payments are check, cash, money order, Visa, and
Mastercard (livestock not accepted). Most can be mailed, or done in person.
Credit Cards are accepted in person, or over the phone. Contracts are usually
e-mailed but may also be faxed, mailed or signed in person.
What are my final payment options? We accept
personal checks (and sometimes credit card payments) received more than 7 days
prior to your wedding. If your wedding is less than 7 days away, acceptable
forms of payment are cash, cashier's checks, money orders, or first born
children. We accept these last minute payments up until right before the meal
start.
May I speak with/meet the DJ prior to reserving him?
In the Classic & Biographical Styles, you can meet the DJ. In the
Jukebox (Basic) Style you may speak with him over the phone.
How far will you travel? As far as you want us
to. Some Jukebox Style events over 30 miles away and some Standard or
Biographical Style events over 50 miles away may require a travel fee. And of
course, you can fly us to Hawaii any time you want.
